"The decisive moment, it is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as the precise organization of forms which gives that event its proper expression." - Henri Cartier-Bresson
The history of photography is full of decisive moments, events that have shaped history, informed, shocked, amazed and entertained.
The images I have made for this work do not appear to be about events or decisive moments. They do not particularly inform, amaze or entertain; they certainly will not change the world and I hope they will shock nobody. My interest is in light. The way nature’s light touches and enhances both the natural world and man made structures and the fact that nature and man do co-exist. The subjects of my photographs are not dramatic, they are unremarkable, everyday and mundane. The light and the juxtaposition of man with nature provide any sense of drama, albeit understated.
My moments are just as decisive as the moment before and the moment after and each image is a significant event that constantly occurs. In a quiet and still fraction of a second I want to portray the beauty that exists in our everyday.
